BRM wanted some photos for himself, so got the group together and shot a bit. I wish I’d had more time and better lighting, but ya gotta work with what you have. Whatever the case, a few of these turned out pretty good. I hope they like them. (sorry the gallery is consuming so much of this one page, but I’ve not yet figured out how to break it up very well…soon, I’m sure)
The temperatures were in the 90s (even close to 100F where we were), but we all still had a bit of fun on this nearly deserted, dead-end road. BRM and I were to get together to take some photos, but as luck would have it, we ran into a couple of other guys who were up for joining the party. RedGrandRR decided to hang out for awhile too until he had to go pick up his lil’ woman.
This definately wasn’t one of our more spirited rides, but it was fun getting a few of us together and doing some of the routes. Since my bike was in the shop, I filmed most of this while following behind in my car. Let me just say that it’s not easy filming out the window while holding the steer while *and* shifting gears to keep up with 1000cc bikes – so forgive some of the shaking and odd angles.
Interestingly, I keep getting comments from some who want to start doing more and more organized groups rides like this….but only farther, faster, and with more people. I’m game.
Finally, after being out of commission for almost an entire month, I got my bike back (thanks Logan!). In just over a couple of years, I’ve put around 25,000 miles on this bike. It was time to do some scheduled maintenance. Unfortunately, I waited until prime riding season and everyone else across the US was also doing maintenance which put some of my parts on backorder. I’ve not been of the bike for this long since my last one was stolen (yeah, you remember my mental breakdown, don’t you??). Anway, it was awfully nice to hop back into the seat tonight for a few hours.
In the past, there were dozens and dozens of bikes - now it's empty.
It seems like only yesterday that dozens of us would pull into Sonic on Richmond after a great summer TNR. We’d arrive and there’d be countless familiar faces (and some new ones too). The above shot, taken tonight at around 8pm, just shows a desolate place. I know that Sonic became a popular place while the Parkette was closed, but you’d expect at least a few people hanging around. Times have changed and so have we.
Thursday nights just aren’t what they used to be. It’s sad, really. In the not-too-distant-past, most summer Thursday nights started either at LMS or Hooters with nearly one hundred bikes. Things ebb and flow, however, and recently it’s just been ebbing. Hopefully times will change again.
Here are some random shots taken at a few recent TNRs. Hope to see you next Thursday.
So why the big change from a forum to a blog? Well, why not? Although the forum was getting quite a bit of traffic, very few people saw fit to actually post much. Forums don’t work well if people don’t post – duh.
I decided to change this site up a bit and make it a place for me to dump some of the biking and auto stuff I find (photos, news stories, and such). Likewise, many of you are invited to both comment on the stories I post and, if you are so compelled to do so, post news and photos of your own.
I guess the club idea these days is a bit cliché because there are so many of them and they’re ultimately cliquish and meaningless. Most of us use Facebook (evil) or have each phone numbers for each other, so forums are almost useless. On the other hand, we almost always have some kind of news to share - so I’m going to be dumping my news here.
Sign up for an account (sorry, I couldn’t import the accounts over from the old site) and look around.
